INTENT

Apocalyptic Architecture: Designing for Doomsday
intends to propose a new “architecture of resistance” responsive to the current manifestation of apocalyptic paranoia. Utilizing critical research and analysis of prior historic conditions and solutions, combined with an awareness of popular culture and a sensitive engagement of contemporary social and urban issues - the studio will address how approachable design can offer potential solutions of optimism. This research-intensive collaborative studio will explore how design interventions can respond to Apocalypticism.

Through the application of the hypothetical scenario of the doomsday as its intellectual spark, it is expected that the studio will provide tangible architectural solutions to real-world problems, and illuminate new knowledge about the contemporary landscape that enables responsive interdisciplinary design.
